Hi John,

Thank you for the info regarding Hallside's new name. My sister just pointed out that due to a typo on my part, I spelled my Grandmother's name incorrectly. Should be Allan - not Allen.

We visited the village about five years ago and were pleasantly surprised to see how beautifully the English houses have been renovated. Never heard my family refer to them as the "English houses." Interesting.

Very, very interesting to see my relatives listed in the 1901 Census. My mother, Elspeth Allen, was born and raised at 25 Hallside.I spent much of my happy childhood there among grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and various animals. Nice to remember the familiar neighbors' names also. My grandmother was in the first nursing class to graduate from Bellshill Hospital. My grandfather worked in the steelworks; my mother met my father when he was wiring the houses for electricity and it was love at first sight. Thanks for the memories!

Hi there
Henry Graham and Douglas White were my great-great grandparents. There son, Archibald came to the parish of Neilston (where I now reside!). Archibald married Esther Ann Queenie from Mull in 1862 before moving to the Port Dundas area of Glasgow. My grandfather, William Graham and my father, John Graham and myself were all born and raised in the Cowcaddens area. An interesting fact is that the mother of Esther Ann Queenie was Kate Livingstone, cousin of the celebrated explorer, Dr. David Livingstone.

I would appreciate any information on Hallside, my paternal grandfather worked at the steelworks until 1980 at age 63, the old guy is still with us at age 92 albeit in a wheelchair. He still owns No 28 Village Road. He is Jack Gourley and I believe he was a foreman at Hallside for a number of years
